Marama huri noa - Mei

Mei (May) 2022 has been our busiest month so far at Ngāti Rānana, with numerous local and international performances!

Villa Maria 60th Anniversary 🍾

Following our Anzac performances at the end of Āperira (April), we began our Mei by supporting Villa Maria for their 60th-anniversary celebrations in London's exclusive Mayfair. We were also privileged to bless Apricity in the opening of their new restaurant - owned by proud kiwi Chanelle Nicholson.

We’re always proud to share a taste of our culture and te āo Māori with our Kiwi community and their guests.

Madrid 🏉

Swiftly after enjoying some wonderful hospitality, kai and inu at our first gig of the month, we were on a waka rererangi (airplane) to Paniora (Spain)! We were invited by the New Zealand Embassy in Spain to support the Classic All Blacks in their match against the Spanish Leones at the Metropolitano Stadium.

In the shining Spanish sun, we did performances in the fan zone, for VIPs and on the pitch during halftime! We had the best time and were treated like celebrities. This was definitely one for the books!

Kīngitanga Visit ✨

Following our European trip we had the honour of welcoming the Kiingitanga; Te Makau Ariki, Atawhai, Te Puhi Ariki, Ngawaihonoitepo, Te Ranga-Tiki Archdeacon Ngira Simmonds and Rukumoana Schaafhausen to Te Whenua o Oneroa i nōhoa e Hinemihi (Clandon Park National Trust, once inhabited by Hinemihi) in Surrey, England.

The day was filled with sunshine, aroha and great korero!

NZ Meat Board 100th Anniversary 🥩

We then had the pleasure of attending the 100th Anniversary soiree of the New Zealand Meat Board at Butcher's Hall, one of the oldest of 110 City of London Livery Companies that trace back to 975 AD.

SAP Sponsorship 🤝🏼

Our next gig was at SAP to support the launch of their new sponsorship of NZ teams - most notably the All Blacks! We joined them for their coffee morning and had the opportunity to rub shoulders with some familiar faces.

Black Caps Welcome 🏏

To round off our month, we joined the New Zealand High Commission in the UK to welcome members of the Black Caps team to London alongside Kea New Zealand, London New Zealand Cricket Club, and ANZ, before their test at Lord’s and UK tour!
