Ko Kiwiroa tōku ingoa. I whānau mai ki Pukekohe, i tipu ake ai ki Papakura.
I arrived in London in 1991 and spotted a little ad in the weekly Kiwi newspaper that existed back then telling me about the weekly Ngāti Rānana get togethers. I was excited and nervous but off I went. I immediately met 2 people I knew from Uni, and it very quickly became my home away from home, my turangawaewaewae, my extended whanau and a place where I could keep in touch with my Māori roots. After a while I became one of the tutors!
I took a significant break away and came back late 2012, and again, it was like coming home. I'm now in my 5th year as Performance Coordinator, which really means front person for performance enquiries, and chief negotiator! It's a fun role, I get to meet tons of people - at least by email - but it can be really hectic in busy times. I love our get togethers, our fun times and of course showcasing our culture to the world!
