On Saturday 18th of January, the Royal Warrant Holders Association held their annual dinner at the Great Fosters Hotel in Egham.
The Royal Warrant Holders Association look after the suppliers/vendors who hold recognition on the goods or services provided to the Royal households.
This years dinner was in honour of their Secretary Douglas (Doug) Hill – a proud New Zealander – as he was retiring after 35 years of service.
The venue was decorated beautifully, and all the tables were named after different cities from around Aotearoa.
A group of 12 Ngati Ranana kaihaka went to tautoko Doug for all his service and were greeted by everyone with so much aroha and admiration.
The performance started with a haka powhiri, followed by some of our crowd favourites Haere Mai/Toia Mai, a medley of waiata we lovingly refer to as the “Mama Joy Medley”, Tika Tonu and Ka Mate.
Our kaea duties were shared between Rebecca, Whaea Gerry, Anita (for her first time!) and haka led by Luke.
We chose to perform the “Mama Joy Medley” as it references the East Coast region where Doug is from. Our kaihaka tonight were
Maylee Allen, Whaea Gerry Williamson, Whaea Jackie Naylor, Whaea Esther Jessop, Rebecca Khan, Su Heppenstall, Anna Polonkai, Sivi Boyce, Anita Lomas, Luke Claasen, Sam Brown, Conor Lorigan.
